Google Bots Use Mozilla?

I'm not very familiar with the details on how search engines work. I know they send out little bots that crawl your site for content, keywords, etc.. and they rank you according to what they find out.

As far as how the bots operate I have no clue. I just notice on my site page-load stats that googlebot visited my site, and the stats indicated that it uses mozilla for a browser. Is this true? Why would google use mozilla, if it has its own platform?

Google bots have to do nothing with the browser, google takes into consideration the site, the data, relevancy to targeted keywords. Your results won't differ on Google if you use mozilla or IE. If the site your trying to access is slow then its quite possible it may affect the performance of site in search engines.

One of the first things I noticed about this bot is that it not only ignored robots.txt it actually goes after everything listed as disallow first. I have also noticed it comes in on the same IP as Google-image. Which I suspect is not just intended to find images as the name would indicate. This is definitely some sort of analysis bot. On a site I had drop from Google, and then got crawled it appeared to me that the Mozilla Google has to "approve" of pages before the normal bot will index. The site is php dynamic and Google-image appeared to add images names as parameters to queries. This is perhaps a method of determining where to begin ignoring text strings as queries. An email to Google stated it was simply following links. This is absolutely untrue and I don't like being lied to. They are doing things with these Bots but want it to be a secret. A little sneaky if you ask me but not necessarily sinister.

When you surf the net your Internet browser sends out messages telling the website things about itself. Websites keep track of visitors in their log files. One of the bits of information that is sent out is something called a “User Agent”. Each browser has its own user agent string.

That's not true. Google bots doesn't favor any specific browsers. It crawls sites regardless of where they're opened or hosted.
