Keyword targeting.

How can you most successfully target the right keywords for your chosen niche? I have heard even the most excellent Seo Masters stuff up on this one and can get the keywords wrong.
What is your best advice on this and how do you master the Art of Targeting Keywords?

Choosing the right keywords and keyword phrases is the first and the most important step on a way to a successful website and improved search engine rankings. The keyword factor is the one that will decide whether your website promotion campaign will be a success or a miserable fail.

I usually choose long-tail keywords that are less competitive but still generate a decent amount of search volume. I think that's a realistic path to take when it comes to keyword selection.

The best thing to do, is to get a keyword search tool, there is a nice one called "good keywords" which is free, also you can use Google AdWords research tool, or msn adcenter research tool, I find these better as they are up to date and are great at making suggestions.

First research keyword for your niche in Google adwords and Google insights. Then optimize some leading(present trending) keywords, so that you can get a fresh, new and better keyword.
