The first thing that comes to mind when SEO is mentioned is the keywords. The world wide web is dependent on this factor to measure the information wealth available on the Internet. How to select right keywords?


To find right keywords, first you need to know what the search phrases are used by people when they search for the product or service or product that are offered. If you work in a competitive niche market like "weight loss" or "website design", then you have to pay extra attention to select not too competitive keywords. To reduce the competition you can select keywords based on location. If your product or service is limited to a certain city or country, use geo-filters as part of your keywords for website optimization. It is observed that the longer key phrases get you targeted traffic. Narrow down your audience instead of appealing to a wider group. For example, try 'weight loss after dieting', 'weight loss for working men' instead of 'weight loss'. Instead of one word keywords, you can drive the required traffic by using long key phrases.


Therefore, to find the right keywords, you have to know your industry niche well, and cannot randomly select keywords, that you feel are best. The process of keyword selection must involve industry research. Check out how your competitors have done their websites optimization and with what keyword strategy they are using to attract visitors to their websites.


One important point is to focus on few keywords instead of having a long list of keywords. This way your efforts will not go in vain by the long list that you have chosen for your website.

I have a new website and I want to do SEO of the website. I have

selected a keyword for this site which has 500 average visitors per

month according to google keyword tool. It will be fine for me

initially. moreover I checked google with command "keyword" and it

returned with 1000 websites.I have two questions:

1. What is the recommendable number of competitors for a new website?

I want to do link building and other keyword optimization methods and

what to bring the site on first page of google in just 1 month.

2. What strategies should be adopted to beat 1000 websites in a month

for a particular keyword?

If you are looking to beat 1000 web sites in a month on a specific keyowrd they have all optimised for you will struggle. To achieve your goal of beating them I would suggest you research a phrase which has minimal competition but where people are searching for it already. You don't need the tools which have been recommended since you can do this for free already using google adwords. They have a tool in there which you can use for free. Most people think adwords is only for getting paid traffic, well according to google it is but the keyword tool provided for your advertising is excellent and will find you new and uniques keywords on your site.
