I think you need to find a happy medium between SEO and design and ease of use, because although your site may look amazing, or your site may rate high in the search engines your site may be so hard to use that no one will want to use it, these three points I believe are vital, its like also if you have your amazing designed site and its brilliant to use, but no one is ever going to ever click on it because the marketing for it is appauling, its like picasso hiding his paintings and himself in his basement.
