Do you fnd the use of programmers is sucessful rather than learning the process yourself?

I had a script which didn't do exactly what I wanted it to so I asked a prgrammer to fix it for me, at a price of course, he did so but when I checked the code it was badly written, he had taken a piece of off the shelf script and lifted a relevant section without considering taking out the branding.

I will not do this again unless I know the programmer personally.
